Meeting on Hilltop Property Rescheduled

The meeting regarding the future of the Hilltop property has been rescheduled for Wednesday, December 5, at 5:30 p.m. in the Hilltop cafeteria.

Special Board Meeting

In accordance with the Ohio Revised Code, notice is hereby given that the Reading Community City School District Board of Education is holding a Special Board Meeting on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. in the Office of the Superintendent located at 1301 Bonnell Avenue, Reading. The Board will meet for the purpose of a board retreat.

Booster Spirit Wear Shop Now Open

Fall Choir Concert Monday, October 22, 2018 at 7 p.m.

The Fall Choir Concert will be held Monday, October 22, 2018 at 7 PM at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

The concert is free and all are welcome to attend.  We hope to see everyone there.

Reading Key Club Making a Difference Key Club

Reading High School Key Club leaders are attending youth conferences in the area to learn more about service projects and network with other area youth. Key Club has many service activities planned this school year in our community and beyond.

Reading Band Boosters Fundraiser - Class of T-shirts

The Reading Band is now taking orders for "Class Of" tshirts, long sleeved tshirts and hoodies.  Class of 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022 are available in Royal, Black and Gray.  Shirts are available in Youth sizes Small - XL and Adult Sizes Small - 3X. Tshirts are $15, Long Sleeved T's are $20 and Hoodies are $25 (add $2 for 2X and $3 for 3X).  Order forms are available in the High School Office and the Guidance Office in Room 205, and can be found on the High School website - Reading Band Boosters can also email you an order form if you request one.   Shirts should arrive by the end of October. 


Orders are due to Mrs. Bell by 10/5/2018 (orders cannot be processed without payment, and we will not order extra shirts, so please order what you want now).  Payment can be cash, check, or if you'd like to pay by credit card, please email Reading Band Boosters and they can send you a pay pal invoice for online payment (there will be a $2 additional fee for credit card processing).


"Class Of" shirts make great Christmas gifts - if you would like to order as a gift, please email Reading Band Boosters and we will make arrangements for you to pick up instead of sending them hom with your student.

Flooding Issues at Reading MS/HS Campus flooding

The heavy rainstorm that occurred on August 20 flooded the first floor of the Reading High School/Reading Middle School Campus and delayed the first day of school. Over the past few years, the flooding on the first floor this building has occurred when Reading gets an extremely heavy rain in a short period of time. Steady rainfall does not cause the building to flood. 


Grand Opening of Reading’s Newest Little Free Library on 9/7

On Friday, September 7, come out and help us celebrate the grand opening of Reading's Reading’s newest Little Free Library and cheer on our Blue Devil football team at the first Blue Devil home game!


The rainstorm that occurred on Monday, August 20th flooded the first floor of the Reading High School/Reading Middle School Campus. Due to the clean-up of the building, the district will be delaying the first day of school for the High School and Middle School campus only until Monday, August 27, 2018. The schedule for Hilltop and Central will remain the same.

Location Change of Board of Education Meetings

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Reading Board of Education has changed the location of the Board of Education Meetings effective August 15, 2018.  The future meetings will be held in the Reading Middle School/High School Media Center, 230 Halker Avenue, Reading, Ohio 45215.

Substitute Levy on November Ballot...FAQs

The Reading Community City School District has substitute levy on the November 6, 2018 ballot. This levy is a substitute for the existing emergency operating levy that voters approved in 2012 and will not increase taxes. 

RHS Summer School

RHS Summer School Starts on Monday, June 11.  Report cards for high school students were mailed home on Monday, June 4.  Please check your student's report card for any "F"s.  Students can attend summer school or may be able to make up credits next school year.  Please click here to access the summer school form.  

You may call your student's Guidance Counselor to discuss summer school options.  Mrs. Eisenhard works with students whose last names are  A - K - 513-842-5208.  Mrs. Bemmes works with students whose last names are L - Z - 513-842-5228.

Reading Summer Athletic Camps balls

Reading is offering athletic camps in June and July for basketball, soccer, and volleyball.

Free Summer Lunch Program 6/4-8/17 Kids Eat Free

Reading Schools will once again be offering free lunches for children ages 1-18 * from June 4-August 17, 2018, Monday-Friday, from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Reading High School Cafe, 1301 Bonnell Avenue. This program is part of the National School Lunch Program.

Reading Boys Summer Basketball Camp

Reading boys basketball camp for grades 2-6 will be held June 26-28 at Haffey. Come join the fun and learning this summer at skills camp.

Reading to Host Annual Volleyball Camp in June Volleyball

Reading High School will be hosting its annual youth volleyball camp June 4-6. The camp will be run by Reading High School head volleyball coach Danielle Cripe and her coaching staff.


The morning session from 8-10 a.m. will be designed for students entering grades 3-5. The second session from 10 a.m. to 12 noon a skills camp for students entering grades 6-8.

Reading's Top Scholars Class of 2018! Reading Class of 2018 Top 10

On Tuesday, April 17, the top 10 students in the Reading High School class of 2018 were honored at a college signing ceremony during the school day and an evening ceremony with teachers they selected as having the most influence on their lives.

Open Enrollment Begins April 2, 2018

The Reading Board of Education will be accepting applications, in person only, beginning April 2, 2018 8:00 a.m. at 1301 Bonnell Avenue, Office of the Superintendent.  The deadline for application will be Friday, May 11, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. Applications will be processed in the order in which they are received.  All individual applications will be date/time stamped when presented at the Board of Education Office.  Applications received by mail will not be accepted.

Message from Principal on Water Issues/Safety

I would like to thank our students and parents for their understanding and patience as we are dealing with two issues this week. The water issues are being handled and progress is being made on getting the school back and ready for students.  Here is the information to clarify how school will be operating the rest of the week.

School to Reopen Reading HS and MS on 2/27/18

Due to water damage, Reading Middle and High Schools were closed on Monday, February 26. Reading Middle School and Reading High School will reopen on Wednesday and be on normal schedule the remainder of the week. 

UPDATE: Reading Schools CLOSED 2/26/18

Reading Schools are closed on Tuesday, February 27, 2018. A threat was made on social media this evening, and as a precaution the district was advised by local law enforcement to close school. This will allow police time to investigate and ensure the safety of our students and staff. We will share more information as it becomes available.

High School and Middle School Closed Monday, February 26, 2018

RHS & RMS are closed Monday, February 26, 2018 due to water damage from heavy rains. Central and Hilltop are on regular schedule. We will be working diligently to have everyone back on regular schedule Tuesday.

Blue Devil's Coloring Book Needs Illustrators Reading Coloring Book

Encore, the group supporting artistic activities in Reading, is sponsoring the first-ever Blue Devils Coloring Book! We’re looking for original illustrations from local artists, students, and parents to collect into a coloring book.

February 6, 2018 Incident Update

Tonight about 9:15 p.m., a High School student posted on Snapchat a picture of a gun along with a threat.

Numerous students alerted Reading Police and school administrators. Within 30 minutes police were at the students home. The gun was a BB gun. The student has been charged with inducing panic and will face school discipline as well. 

Reading Police do not believe there is any serious threat. Thanks to numerous students who reported the picture immediately and Reading Police this issue was resolved quickly.


Notice of Cancellation of Board Work Session

This is to advise that the Reading Board of Education Work Session originally scheduled for Wednesday, February 7, 2018 has been CANCELLED.

The next regular scheduled Board of Education meeting will be held on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at 5:30 p.m. in the Library at Reading Hilltop Elementary.

District Earns Auditor of State Award Auditor of State certificate

A recent financial audit of the Reading Community City School District has returned a clean audit report and earned the Auditor of State Award.

2018-2019 Hilltop Preschool Lottery Registration

To ensure that families have an equal opportunity to enroll in the preschool program, the Reading Community School District will hold a lottery to determine which families have a spot in the 2018- 2019 Hilltop Preschool class. Families may register online for the lottery January 22nd thru January 26th on the link below. The lottery registration will open at 8:00 a.m. on January 22nd and close at 3:00 pm on January 26th. If you do not have access to a computer, the Hilltop office will have a kiosk open for your registration into the lottery. Families that have been chosen in the lottery will receive a phone call on Monday, January 29th, stating that they have been randomly chosen for an opening in the preschool program. All families on the waitlist will have been randomly selected during the lottery process. If a family rescinds their request for a preschool opening, a family on the waiting list will be selected and will receive a phone call with an opening offering. This process will continue until all openings are secured. All families participating in the lottery will be notified of their standings after the lottery is completed.

Families who have been selected for Hilltop’s preschool openings will have one week, January 29th thru February 2nd, to complete the registration process in the office with a $50 deposit for ½ day students or $100 for full day students and submit required paperwork. This must be completed by 3:00pm on Friday, February 2nd.

Federal School Programs Hearing and Disability Child Find

The Reading Community City Schools invites residents to attend a public hearing regarding federal programs offered by the district at 5:30 p.m. on January 24, 2018. The hearing will take place at 1301 Bonnell Road in the Reading Community City School’s Administrative Offices.

Winter Dance

RHS’s Winter dance will be Saturday January 27th from 8-11pm. Join us at Haffey Fieldhouse for a night of fun! This year's theme is "black and white" so dress in your best and dance all night. Band Concert Grades 5-12

Reading Band's Winter Concert will be held on Wednesday, December 20th at 6:30 PM at the Lockland High School Auditorium. It will feature band students from 5th through 12th grades as well as a performance by the Pep Band. All are invited and admission is free. We hope to see you there!

Congratulations to all of our Blue Devil student-athletes on a successful fall season. Congratulations also go out to head coach Rob Page and our varsity football team for making it to the second round of the state playoffs!



Reading's SRO Named Police Officer of the Year Officer Allen Magly

Congratulations to Reading School District’s Resource Officer, Allen Magly, who was named Reading’s Police Officer of the Year by the Reading Chamber of Commerce. He was honored at a dinner held on Monday, December 4.

Reading Athletic Director Receives National Award Jon Payne

Reading Athletic Director Jon Payne is one of eight high school athletic directors in the country that will be honored by the National Federation of State High School Association at an awards ceremony to be held on December 11, in Phoenix, Arizona.


Reading Board Hires New Treasurer Colette Lewis

During a special meeting on November 6, the Reading Board of Education approved Colette C. Lewis as the new Treasurer for the district effective January 1, 2018. She will replace Cary Furniss who will retire from Reading Schools effective December 31, 2017. 



2016-17 Yearbooks Are In!

The 2016-17 yearbooks are in! All students who ordered one, it will be handed out on Tuesday, September 5th during AE. Any students at Scarlet or graduated, please come  to the school during open hours to pick yours up. If you need to make other arrangements with Mrs. Freese, please email her at LFreese@readingschools.org

There are some extras available for purchase, but once they are sold out they are gone! Yearbooks are $65 and can be purchased with cash or check (made to RHS).
