Reading's Personal Finance Education Program Honored

Brian Page Gold Standard Award

Reading Schools are thrilled to be recognized by Next Gen Personal Finance as a Gold Standard School, a nation’s leader in personal finance education. Exceeding the criteria, Reading's commitment also includes some instruction in the elementary and middle school grades.

"Before a student graduates from Reading High School, they are required to take a semester-long personal finance class. Mr. Brian Page, our personal finance teacher, is recognized nationally for his expertise. We are so grateful to Mr. Page for his tireless efforts to bring these important lessons to our students," said Dennis Ramsey, RHS Principal.

Reading High School offers three different personal finance classes. Mr. Page teaches a semester-long class devoted entirely to Personal Finance and a modified class for special education students. He also teaches Honors Personal Finance and Economics which is a full-year weighted class.

"The goal of our personal finance course is for students to learn the concepts and tools needed to manage money in a way that works best for them, and is most closely aligned with their own goals and values while living below their means in order to prioritize their own financial health," Mr. Page shared.

You will see personal finance lessons throughout our curriculum. In one of the second-grade classes they earn dollars during the day they can apply at their store; in the fifth grade some students participate in the stock market game; and at Reading Middle School they have a dedicated class taught by Ms. Victory.

"We've worked together to make sure our curriculum is aligned. In other words, personal finance is a priority at Reading Schools," Mr. Page added.
