On March 30, Reading Superintendent Chuck LaFata surprised Mrs. Mrs. Stacey Riedmiller at the Hilltop musical with the news that she has been named the district’s 2017 Educator of the Year. She will be honored at a breakfast on May 12, with our educators of the year from other districts in Hamilton County.
Mrs. Stacey Riedmiller, a Reading graduate, has been employed with Reading schools since 2010. As a reading/language arts teacher, Mrs. Riedmiller's passion for literacy is evident in her work. She helped coordinate a successful summer family reading program called “Books on Blankets” and the “Little Free Library” where students, parents and community members are encouraged to take a book and then leave a book in its place. In addition, Mrs. Riedmiller has her own Twitter account @literacybigkids with more than 2,700 followers where she shares her love of reading and elementary literacy. She was selected to speak on a national level to help other teachers improve Scholastic reading programs in their classrooms.
One of Mrs. Riedmiller’s students wrote, “Mrs. Riedmiller is a kind person who loves to see that her students understand what to do. She works hard every day and deserves this award. She always loves reading books and doing read-alouds.”
Mrs. Riedmiller’s passion for literacy is contagious and she has created a positive culture in her classroom, school and community where the love of reading has been fostered and will continue to grow.
