Dear Reading Parents,
I know every parent and educator today is struggling with the news of the tragic school shooting in Florida.
Last week, our school received a social media threat and I am incredibly proud of our Reading students who spoke out and our police department who reacted so quickly. Last Tuesday night, I received texts and an email from high school students about a school threat made on SnapChat. These students also emailed our high school principal and School Resource Officer. Within one hour of receiving these messages, the Reading Police were at the home of the student who made the threat to make an arrest.
Safety and Mental Health Measures in Reading Schools
- Active shooter and lockdown drills are held throughout the school year.
- Tabletop safety drills are conducted with the Reading Police and Fire Department.
- We have a full-time School Resource Officer, Officer Magly, who works with the students, staff, and parents, to provide a safe and educational environment
- Mental health professionals on staff from the Children’s Home to serve students in need
Safety Features in New School
Our new PK-12 school will have safety featured that have been designed based on recommendations from the Reading Police and Fire Departments. The new building will have security cameras both inside and outside, motion detectors, and secure entrances.
