Welcome to the 2013-14 school year. I am excited to work with the students and families who are new to our district, and I am also looking forward to seeing the familiar faces of those who are returning.
I would like to introduce our staff. I will be at the high school clinic, and I will oversee the clinics at all the schools in the district. The district has three health aides. Serena Lawson, LPN will be at the Hilltop clinic. Mary Beth Rogers, CNA will be in the clinic at Central Elementary. I would like to welcome Sara Mefford Scarpinski, LPN to the middle school clinic.
I understand that the beginning of the school year is a stressful time with lists of necessary supplies and paperwork. For parents of preschool, kindergarten, and 7th grade students, there are added requirements of immunization records and extra paperwork. If you have any questions, or need help in any way, please feel free to contact the health aide or myself.
Along with cutting edge technology updates, this 2013-14 marks the beginning of our commitment to the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program. Bullying is a phenomenon seen worldwide, and after investigating many different programs, our district decided to subscribe to the Olweus program. This has involved in depth training and planning for the staff that began last year. Not only does the program provide for on-the-spot intervention, it aims at preventing bullying from happening. Our aim is to develop a culture in our schools where bullying is not acceptable, and everyone feels included. Our students will play an integral role in helping to develop this sense of community and acceptance through activities throughout the school year.
