Reading Middle School Teacher Selected to Receive Telescope
The sky is no longer the limit for students in Reading Middle School science classes. Soon students will have the opportunity to use a new 8 inch wide telescope that was one of 20 to be given away by the Cincinnati Observatory as part of theirFuture Galileos program.  The program helps to mark the 400th anniversary of Galileo first using a much simpler version to study stars and planets in the night sky.    A grant from NASA has provided the money and helped the Observatory donate 80 of these instruments so far to local area educators. Over 60 individuals applied for the grant this final year of the program and Mark Griffen, Reading Middle School 6th grade science teacher, was one of this year’s lucky educators selected by a team of astronomers to receive the gift.  The telescope will be used to help students of all ages study and view objects in space during upcoming astronomy nights held at the Reading schools, as well as on field trips, such as Central Elementary 5th grade's trip to Camp Kern next week.  Mr. Griffen will be working with other recipients to help make Cincinnati a "telescope town" as part of the program.
