STUDENTS RECEIVE AMERICANISM AWARDS!
The 2011 Americanism and Government test was given to 9th-12th grade students in the high school cafeteria on November 11. This test is administered annually by the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary. Students answer questions concerning the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence, as well as, state, county, city and school government. Additionally, students are required to answer one essay question.
This year’s winners included: Christina Garrison and Jarrett Ball (9th grade); Richard Simmang and Emily Boryczka (11th grade); Whitney Reardon and Brandon Wesley (12th grade).
Winners received a certificate, medal and pin from Mrs. Donna Ray, President of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Halker-Flege American Legion Post at the Board of Education meeting on Wednesday, January 25. Demonstrating their continued support of Reading’s students, members of Reading’s VFW post graciously presented a $25.00 check to each of this year’s winners. The VFW was represented by Paul Kreiner and Jim Pfenning at Wednesday’s board meeting.
