My first year as a school psychologist for Reading School District was 2002-2003. Reading Schools is where I started my career as a school psychologist. The first few years I worked in the two elementary buildings. Now I work across all schools in the district. My degrees include B.A.'s in Psychology and Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an M.Ed. in School Psychology from the University of Cincinnati.

The Role of a School Psychologist

School psychologists can have many different roles within a school environment.  Some of the things that I do for Reading include the following:
  • Consult with teachers to create interventions and plans for students struggling in the classroom academically or behaviorally
  • Formally observe students to collect data and information on targeted behaviors
  • Conduct direct assessments with students to collect information on cognitive ability and academic achievement
  • Conduct interviews with staff and community members to gather information on students
  • Case manage evaluations of children Preschool through 12th grade to determine eligibility for an educational disability
  • Interpret student scores and data
  • Consult on progress monitoring and data collection strategies as well as data-based decision making
  • Case manage and lead the implementation of the Response to Intervention Model (RTI) within the district
  • Case manage and assess proficiency levels of students who speak English as a Second Language (ESL)
  • Consult on educational law in regards to special services and related documentation
  • Offer professional development on topics of intervention and students with certain medical diagnoses and/or educational disabilities
