The Reading Community School District has a long history of offering a high-quality preschool program. The preschool curriculum was adopted to serve children with typical development who are 3 to 5 years old. The goal of the program is to provide students with opportunities to grow socially and academically while preparing for kindergarten challenges. Boys and girls in preschool will have opportunities to engage in social play, learn beginning reading skills, and become accustomed to the culture of school life.
Our preschool program consists of 5 full days of instruction, Monday thru Friday. The school day begins at 8:30 a.m. and dismisses at 3:00 p.m. Parents may choose to enroll their children for ½ days, which begins at 8:30 a.m. and dismisses at 11:30 a.m. Students currently enrolled may remain in the program without participating in the enrollment lottery, provided they meet age requirements. Transportation is the responsibility of the parent/guardian. A sibling of a child who is currently enrolled in the preschool program will automatically be accepted and will not have to participate in the lottery.
The program accepts children who are three years old on or before Sept 30th during the year in which they wish to enroll; however, priority is given to children who are four years old in the lottery process. Children must be toilet-trained before entering preschool. Families who wish to enroll in the preschool program must reside in the Reading Community School District by the end of the application deadline.
To ensure that families have an equal opportunity to enroll in the preschool program, the Reading Community School District will hold a lottery to determine which families have a spot in the 2019- 2020 Reading Preschool class. Families may register online for the lottery January 28 thru February 1. The lottery registration will close at 3:00 pm on February 1. If you do not have access to a computer, the Hilltop office will have a kiosk open for your registration into the lottery. Families that have been chosen in the lottery will receive a phone call on Monday, February 4, stating that they have been randomly chosen for an opening in the preschool program. All families on the waitlist will have been randomly selected during the lottery process. If a family rescinds their request for a preschool opening, a family on the waiting list will be selected and will receive a phone call with an opening offer. This process will continue until all openings are secured. All families participating in the lottery will be notified of their standings after the lottery is completed.
Families who have been selected for Hilltop’s preschool openings will have one week, February 4 - 8, to complete the registration process in the office with a $50 deposit for ½ day students or $100 for full day students. The registration period will close at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 8. Families that fail to register within the allotted time will forfeit their spot in the program, and a family from the waiting list will be chosen. When registering, families must provide the following: Proof of residency, Birth Certificate, and a Deposit. If a family does not provide these items during the registration process, they will lose their spot and a family from the waitlist will be selected for the opening.
