Change to Remote Learning

Blue Devil Families,

Click here to watch an important announcement from Superintendent Jason Enix.

Reading City Community School district will be switching to a remote learning model effective tomorrow, Friday, November 13. Remote learning will continue through the Thanksgiving break, with students returning to our AM/PM blended learning model Monday, November 30.

We are making this change with the support of Hamilton County Public Health to contain the spread of COVID-19 and protect the health and safety of our staff, our students, and the community. This extended period of remote learning will allow students to continue to access educational resources while mitigating potential health risks.

Over the past several days, there have been a high number of students and staff who have either tested positive or been placed in quarantine and evidence of spread in school activities. Approximately 15% of our students are currently in quarantine and 11 current active COVID cases.

All sports, extracurricular activities, and clubs will not meet during the remote learning period. Our buildings will be closed to everyone except staff.

Beginning tomorrow, Friday, November 13, students will be required to participate in classes remotely, much as they do during their current remote learning periods. Attendance will be taken daily, and absences will need to be reported to the school attendance line. Breakfast and lunch will be made available for pick-up. Further details about schedules and expectations will be communicated to families at each grade level.

While we believe that our AM/PM blended learning model allows for adequate physical distancing in our classrooms, there is currently a high incidence of community spread in our area. Community spread has greatly impacted our school environment because many of our incidents of positive cases and quarantines are directly related to community spread.

The symptoms and severity of COVID-19 can vary from person to person, and there is no way to predict who will become seriously ill. Because of that, we urge our families to continue to check students for the following symptoms daily, even while in remote learning:

  • Loss of taste or smell

  • Fever or chills

  • Cough

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing

  • Fatigue

  • Muscle or body aches

  • Headache

  • Sore throat

  • Congestion or runny nose

  • Nausea or vomiting

  • Diarrhea

If your student is experiencing even one of these symptoms, please contact our district nurse, Heidi Sandlin at 513-842-5203 or through email at [email protected]. If your student or someone in your home tests positive, has a known exposure to COVID-19, or has been told to quarantine you should also notify the district nurse. These notifications should continue while students are learning remotely.

During this remote learning period, it is important that our students continue to engage in school and also practice handwashing, mask-wearing, and physical distancing. This will ensure that they are healthy and prepared for the return to our blended model.

Look for further communication from our principals about how the school day will operate for your students.

Please be sure to take care of your remote learning device during this time.

Thank you for your support as we do everything we can to keep our community safe and healthy.
