Temporary Switch to Remote Learning

Reading Schools will be shifting to a remote learning model Thursday, January 28, and Friday, January 29, due to a high incidence of COVID-19 cases and symptoms.  All extracurricular and after school activities are canceled today and may resume when we return to school on Monday, February 1.  During this time, the building will be closed.

We are sending this message now to make sure our families, students, and staff have as much time to prepare for remote learning as possible. Students will be sent home with devices and/or materials to allow them to continue learning on Thursday and Friday.

As positive cases, symptomatic students, and close contacts have been reported, we have been in consultation with Hamilton County Public Health and are taking this step at their recommendation. Closing until Monday will allow for the recommended “rest” period for classrooms and the building, as well as a deep clean of the building during the closure period.

Those students that are positive and quarantined, close contacts have been notified, however notification of non-quarantined close contacts are still pending.  Our district nursing staff are working to notify those students and families as quickly as possible.

Just as a reminder, please monitor your student(s) for symptoms that include fever, cough, shortness of breath, headache, sore throat, runny/stuffy nose, fatigue, body aches, nausea/vomiting/diarrhea, and loss of taste or smell.  If your student experiences any of these symptoms, please consult with your health care provider and keep your student(s) at home.

Throughout these last few challenging months, we have been focused on providing the highest level of education and protecting the safety of our students, staff, and community. Everyone has been asked to do a lot to help us meet this shared goal. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Lunches will be provided for students who need them. They can be picked up on-site in the High School Circle beginning at 3-4 pm Wednesday, January 27.

We will provide more information as needed.
