Girls STEM at UC event!

Several Reading 7th and 8th-grade students attended the Girls in STEM Day event hosted by the University of Cincinnati's Greater Cincinnati STEM Collaborative (GCSC). This event, which is sponsored by Procter & Gamble and other partners, aims to inspire young girls to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) fields.

The event began with inspirational talks from a successful women in STEM who shared their personal experiences and journey in the field. The girls then participated in three hands-on workshops focused on different aspects of STEM. The workshops were led by professionals from various STEM fields, including engineering, computer science, and biology.

The girls had the opportunity to explore different areas of STEM and learn new skills through activities such as building and programming robots, conducting experiments in a laboratory, and designing and building structures using engineering principles. They were able to ask questions and interact with professionals in the field, gaining valuable insights into what a career in STEM might entail.

In the afternoon, the girls joined STEM professionals for a networking lunch designed to debunk myths about women in STEM. This provided an opportunity for the girls to connect with women who have successfully pursued careers in STEM and learn about the challenges they faced and how they overcame them.

In addition to inspiring young girls, events like Girls in STEM Day also help to showcase the exciting and rewarding careers that exist in STEM fields. By providing hands-on activities and interactions with professionals, these events can help to demystify STEM fields and show young girls that there are many different paths they can take.

Overall, the Girls in STEM Day event hosted by the University of Cincinnati's GCSC was a valuable experience for the Reading 7th and 8th-grade students who attended. They were able to learn new skills, explore different areas of STEM, and connect with professionals in the field. Hopefully, events like this will continue to inspire more young girls to pursue careers in STEM and help to close the gender gap in these fields.
