The Giving Tree: A Tradition at Reading for over 15 Years

The spirit of giving and community has been alive for more than 15 years at Reading Schools through a heartwarming initiative known as "The Giving Tree." This wonderful tradition initially began at both Central and Hilltop schools and has continued to thrive, even after a few years of absence due to the merger of the schools. However, thanks to the dedication of Amber Stinson Elementary Guidance Counselor and the entire K-12 staff, this heartwarming tradition was reignited in 2021, bringing joy and support to countless families in need.
"The Giving Tree" has deep roots in Reading, dating back to well before the merger.  It's a testament to Reading's enduring commitment to compassion and support for its residents from the educators who serve our children.

In the 2021-2022 school year, the program was rekindled, and its impact has been profound. The number of families benefiting from "The Giving Tree" has ranged from 40 to 55 families.  This year, 52 families, including 103 children, are receiving assistance. The program's inclusivity is striking, as it provides support to children from birth through high school graduation, ensuring that every child in need is cared for.

The success of "The Giving Tree" would not be possible without the dedicated individuals working tirelessly behind the scenes. These unsung heroes make phone calls to families, create ornaments, and distribute gifts, ensuring that every aspect of the program runs smoothly. Their selfless contributions are the backbone of this tradition.

At its core, "The Giving Tree" is about providing essentials to those who need them most. Coats, hats, shoes, socks, and clothing are among the necessities that are lovingly donated by the Reading community. These items ensure that children stay warm and comfortable throughout the winter, allowing them to focus on their education and well-being.

The impact of "The Giving Tree" extends far beyond the tangible gifts. It fosters a sense of unity, compassion, and togetherness among the residents of Reading. It reminds us all that, during the holiday season, it's not just about the gifts we receive but the love and support we share that truly matter.

"The Giving Tree" is a testament to the strength of your community and the values Reading Schools uphold. It showcases the power of collective kindness and the difference that a few people can make in the lives of someone else.  If you are interested in learning more or helping in any way please contact Amber Stinson at [email protected]
