A Farewell to SRO Allen Magly and a Warm Welcome to SRO Sam Hickey

Reading Community Schools is embarking on a new chapter as we find ourselves bidding farewell to a familiar face and welcoming a new one. It is with mixed emotions that we announce the retirement of our dedicated School Resource Officer (SRO) Allen Magly and extend a warm welcome to our new SRO, Sam Hickey.

For the past decade, Allen Magly has been an integral part of the Reading community, serving as our SRO with unwavering dedication. Throughout his tenure, he has not only maintained a safe and secure environment within our schools but has also built meaningful relationships with students, staff, and parents. Allen's commitment to the well-being of our students has been exceptional, and his retirement marks the end of an era for Reading Community Schools.

Allen Magly's impact on our district cannot be overstated. He has been a pillar of support for our students, offering guidance, mentorship, and a reassuring presence. His genuine concern for the welfare of each student has left a lasting impression, and we are deeply appreciative of his decade-long service. While we are excited for Allen as he embarks on this new chapter of his life, we will certainly miss his wisdom, experience, and dedication. Allen's last day with us will be on February 16th, marking the end of an era that will be cherished and remembered by all who had the privilege of working with him.

Filling the considerable shoes left behind by Allen Magly is Sam Hickey, a seasoned law enforcement professional with 23 years of experience. Although new to the Reading Police Department, Sam comes to us with a wealth of knowledge gained from his previous roles with Silverton and the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office. His diverse background, including positions as a Crime Scene Investigator, Lieutenant, and Evidence Collector, has equipped him with a unique skill set that will undoubtedly benefit our school community.
Sam's passion for community involvement aligns perfectly with the values of Reading Community Schools. He is eager to become a part of our team and contribute to the safety and well-being of our students. We anticipate that his extensive experience and community-oriented approach will continue to foster a safe and nurturing environment for all.
We acknowledge that there may be an adjustment period for Officer Hickey, as he is a proud Deer Park graduate who has always been a Wildcat. However, we are confident that his dedication and enthusiasm will make the transition seamless as he embraces the Blue Devils spirit.

When you get a chance please thank Officer Magly for his years of service and Welcome Officer Hickey to the Reading Family.
