Reading Career Readiness Day 2025

Reading Jr./Sr. High School brought classrooms to life on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, with a districtwide Career Readiness Day designed to connect students with real-world pathways, local employers, and postsecondary options.

Across grades 7–12, students engaged in targeted, hands-on experiences aligned to Ohio’s in-demand jobs and RCCS’s K–12 career pathways:

  • Grade 7: Leadership and team-building challenges that sharpened communication, problem-solving, and collaboration.

  • Grade 8: Activities interpreting YouScience aptitude and interest results to spark informed course-taking and pathway choices.

  • Grade 9: A college exposure visit to UC Blue Ash, highlighting certificates, transfer options, and student support services.

  • Grade 10: Industry tours at area manufacturers, giving students a first-hand look at advanced manufacturing, safety, quality, and modern production roles.

  • Grade 11: Career presentations featuring professionals from multiple sectors who shared career journeys, required credentials, and day-to-day realities.

  • Grade 12: Speed networking with regional employers followed by Lunch & Learn breakout sessions for deeper conversation about careers, internships, and next steps.

“Career Readiness Day is about making pathways visible—linking what students learn in school to meaningful futures in college, careers, and service,” said Todd Schilling, Career-Based Learning Coordinator for Reading Community City Schools. “We’re grateful to our partners who open doors and help our students see what’s possible right here in Greater Cincinnati.”

Participating partners included regional manufacturers and employers, higher-education representatives, and community organizations who support work-based learning, internships, and early career exploration. Together, they provided students with practical advice on employability skills, industry certifications, and earning-while-learning opportunities.
