Reading Junior-Senior High School hosted its first College, Career & Military Fair on Thursday, November 20, marking an exciting milestone in the district’s efforts to connect students and families with future-ready opportunities. Held in the high school gym from 5:00–8:00 p.m., the event brought together more than 35 colleges, training programs, military branches, and business partners from across the region.
Nearly 100 students, parents, and community members attended the fair, visiting tables, asking questions, and building relationships that will help guide post-graduation plans. Representatives shared information about college majors, skilled trades, financial aid, military service, certifications, and direct-to-work pathways, giving families a clear picture of the many options available after high school.
“Our goal was to put every pathway in one room,” said Todd Schilling, Career Based Learning Coordinator at Reading Community City Schools. “Whether students are planning to enroll in college, enlist in the military, or enter employment and apprenticeships right after graduation, we want them to see that there are multiple ways to be successful. Tonight gave our students and families the chance to ask real questions, shake hands with real people, and start building real plans for their future.”
Many families commented that having colleges, employers, and military branches all in one place made the process feel less overwhelming and more accessible.
Schilling emphasized that the event is part of a broader commitment to career readiness and real-world learning at Reading Community City Schools.
“This fair is just one piece of the bigger picture,” Schilling said. “We are working to connect what students are doing in the classroom with what they want to do after graduation. Events like tonight help students see that their choices now—classes, activities, credentials, and work experiences—directly impact their opportunities later. We are incredibly grateful to all of the colleges, military representatives, and business partners who showed up for our students and families.”
The strong turnout and positive feedback from students, families, and exhibitors have Reading Junior-Senior High School already looking ahead to making the College, Career & Military Fair an annual tradition.
