Reading Community City Schools celebrated the opening of the Reading Innovation Hub on Wednesday, welcoming more than 60 business and industry partners to tour the new space and learn about its impact on students and workforce development.
The Innovation Hub was made possible through a $2 million grant from the State of Ohio to expand career-technical education opportunities for students. The investment supports both the new Innovation Hub serving junior high and high school students, as well as a makerspace designed specifically for elementary students, creating a K–12 pipeline of hands-on, career-connected learning.
Guests explored the Innovation Hub and saw firsthand how the space will support skill development, creativity, and real-world learning experiences aligned with in-demand career pathways. The flexible, modern environment is designed to serve students across multiple disciplines while strengthening connections between education and industry.
Susan Whitman from the Advanced Manufacturing Industry Partnership (AMIP) spoke about the importance of collaboration between schools and employers in preparing students for high-demand careers. Superintendent Dr. Damon Davis also addressed attendees, highlighting the district’s commitment to expanding access to meaningful career exploration and workforce-ready skills.
The event concluded with special recognition from Senator Jon Husted, who acknowledged the vision, partnerships, and state support that made the Innovation Hub possible.
With strong community engagement and support from local employers, the Reading Innovation Hub officially opens as a cornerstone for innovation, career readiness, and student success across the district.
The space will be open for tours during conferences on the evening of February 13th for families and students.
