Students Step Into the Role of Crime Scene Investigators in Forensics Class

Reading Schools students recently had the opportunity to put their critical thinking and investigative skills to the test thanks to an immersive crime scene experience created by Sandy Ruschell.

Transforming a classroom into a realistic crime scene, Ms. Ruschell carefully staged evidence throughout the room, complete with numbered markers, scattered documents, overturned furniture, and simulated forensic details. From blood spatter patterns to personal items left behind, every detail challenged students to observe closely and think analytically.

Rather than simply reading about forensic science, students actively practiced it. The hands-on experience reinforced key skills in observation, reasoning, and problem-solving while making learning both engaging and memorable.

Experiences like this highlight the power of experiential learning at Reading Schools. Thanks to Ms. Ruschell’s creativity and dedication, students got to live forensic science and not just study it.
