RJSH Students Take Action at “Night for the Fight” to Support Pediatric Cancer Research

Twenty-eight students from Reading Jr./Sr. High School spent their Saturday night and early Sunday morning making a difference for children battling cancer.  On Saturday, March 7, students participated in Night for the Fight, a powerful overnight fundraiser supporting pediatric cancer research held at Fifth Third Arena at the University of Cincinnati.

Night for the Fight is a unique, student-led, 12-hour event designed by students, for students. High school students from across the region gather for an evening filled with games, activities, food, and moments of reflection, all centered around one shared goal: knocking out childhood cancer. Beyond raising important funds for pediatric cancer research, the event also inspires young people to become advocates in the fight against childhood cancer.

Throughout the night, Reading students worked together in teams while participating in activities such as dodgeball, Gaga ball, and a spirited dance contest. The event balanced fun and competition with meaningful learning and reflection.  Students also had the opportunity to hear powerful stories from pediatric cancer survivors ranging in age from just 10 months to 17 years old. These moving moments helped participants better understand how the funds raised through the event directly support research and treatment efforts.

During the program, students shared personal stories about how cancer has impacted their own families and communities. They also took time to recognize and honor two special students from Reading who are currently fighting, or have bravely fought, their own cancer journeys.

Events like Night for the Fight highlight the compassion, leadership, and service-minded spirit of Reading students. By giving their time, energy, and voices to this cause, they helped raise awareness and support for children and families facing cancer while demonstrating the power of young people coming together to make a difference.

Reading Jr./Sr. High School is proud of the students who represented our community and embodied the school’s commitment to learning, leadership, and service.
