The Treasurer’s office oversees all of the financial operations of the District, including payroll for 138 employees. The Treasurer serves as the Chief Financial Officer and reports directly to the Board of Education.
The Treasurer is responsible for the preparation of the annual budget. The Board of Education must adopt a budget by September 30 of each year. The Treasurer’s office also publishes an annual financial report at June 30 each year.
The Treasurer also serves as the Secretary to the Board of Education. In this role, the Treasurer’s Office holds all contracts, documents, and the official minutes of all Board meetings.

On September 28, 2015, Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel announced that Reading Schools is one of 114 local government spending sites now on OhioCheckbook.com. Last year, Treasurer Mandel launched this program, which sets a new national standard for government transparency and for the first time in Ohio history puts all state spending information on the internet. OhioCheckbook.com recently earned Ohio the number one ranking in the country for government transparency.
